I.T. Worx of H.P. develops digital design division

The Business Journal of the Greater Triad Area — August 29, 2008—I.T.Worx, one of the 10 largest computer services firms in the Triad, is expanding further with the launch ofa new digital design and development division called WebWorx.
The new division will allow I.T.Worx to provide a full range of services to its clients, said President JeffreyLoy. The firm’s traditional specialties include hardware sales, infrastructure design, hosting andmaintenance.
“I’m able now to offer another level of service that clients have really been clamoring for,” Loy said. “Theywant to make only one call to get things done, not many calls.”
The WebWorx division will have two employees at the outset to provide design and programming servicesand will be led by Vice President Joe Michel, who has also taken an ownership stake in I.T.Worx.
Loy said he expects the expansion to boost revenues by 30 percent to 40 percent in the first year, based onexpected demand. He declined to detail current sales or profit figures for the private firm.
Michel is no stranger to the Triad or the industry. He founded his own full-service Web design firm PixelsInc. in 1999. That company was folded into the operations of its largest client, Pace Communications, in2006, becoming Pace Interactive.
Michel said his business plan with Pixels was similar to I.T.Worx’s current strategy.
“I always took the full-service approach because I didn’t want my clients to have to go elsewhere,” Michelsaid. “That also helps to avoid some of the ‘finger-pointing’ that happens a lot in the IT world.”
Loy said he currently has 14 employees, up from 10 a year ago. According to Business Journal research,I.T.Worx is the seventh-largest computer service firm in the Triad, up from eighth-largest a year ago.(I.T.Worx services computers for this newspaper.)
The largest computer services firm in the area is NWN Corp., formerly Datanet Services Inc., which has 80Triad employees.
